Abstract

Aim: To evaluate the effects of aerobic individually designed exercise programme by anaerobic treshold, aerobic ability and maximal oxygen uptake of the pred. value on patients with severe COPD. Also to evaluate the effects of exercise programme to strength of m.quadriceps femoris, m. triceps brachii and w.biceps brachii.
Methods: For study were selected 11 patients aged 72 ± 5 with severe COPD ( FEV1 < 35 % of pred.value; pO2a = 60–72 mmHg). Their pharmacologic treatment was stabile.During the study 2 patients excluded.
Patients passed pulmocardial testing on treadmill before exercise programme and after 6 months by protocoll „slow test".We measured anaerobic treshold, aerobic ability and maximal oxygen uptake of the predicted value.
We measured dynamometrically the strength of upper and lower limb muscles.
Physiotherapist instructed exercises for every patient individually and they trained at home 6 months. They trained the groups of upper and lower limb muscles in isolation and unloaded by interval method every day 20 min ang got instructions for walking. They used Borgs scale and filled the diary. Patients contacted with physiotherapist by phone or did a visit.
Results: We found the increase of anaerobic treshold 14,01%; increase the maximal oxygen uptake of pred. value 25,5 % and increase aerobic ability 5,9%. We registered improvement of stregth on some upper and lower limb muscles.
Conclusion: The individually designed exercise programme may improve aerobic ability and increase anaerobic treshold on patients with severe COPD.
