cost of medicines is a very important factor all over the world.
mis understanding by the patient and difficulties in inhalation tech can be over come through repeated patient education programmes,spending more time with patients and relatives,showing them with local language audio visual slides, teaching the close relative the correct methord of inhalation along with the patient so that relative can supervise at home,intermittent surprise telephone calls or personal visit to a patient home certainly makes a good impact and the complaince is better. i am doing it for last 08 years and i am finding it very effective.i practise in the rural part of india where teaching medicine to an illitrate patient is very difficult but it is giving results in terms of adherence to treatment, follow up, and better control of asthma. supervision of inhalation technique is essential at every visit and if necessary , to change to MDIs with spacer device from DPI makes lot of difference.
