Abstract

Introduction: To evaluate role of nursing personal of resource-poor-nations. Our NGO enrolled 534 Respiratory-cancer-patients. 56% tobacco-induced. 68% taken treatment in city returned back to villages. 27% under palliation. 27% treatment dropouts, 5% on chemo. Our NGO provides economical home care in rural-india.
Aim: Determine training of nurses, benefits to rural-community. NGO team trained nurses
Method: 11 NGO evaluation-workshops conducted between Dec2003 to Nov 2007 to assess current nursing-services modify them. To evaluate role of Nurse in rural areas. To determine nursing psychosocial needs of elderly-patients. Modify nurse training module for better care of elderly-population. A multicentre-survey among nurses, traditional faith healers, patients undertaken to identify needs, train nurses. Nurses work with multidisciplinary-NGO-team. Be available to patient and family for psychosocial needs with home-based-care. To increase public awareness on Respiratory-cancer issues like crude-tobacco-smoking in elderly.
Results: 543 elderly patients opinions of nursing-care analyzed 7 months. NGO functioning in operational stages graphically shown to ERS congress participants. Conclusion: our nursing design works as link between medical team patient. Benefits: Reduce depression, Manage patients needs. Improved QOL in elderly. Economical care for respiratory diseases of rural tribal communities.
Recommendation: our approach reduces treatment-cost burden . we Plan to integrate our approach with European experts at vienna-conference venue. Need to share experiences at ERS-2009-congress to break barriers in providing accessible home-based-nursing-care in developing nations.
