Limitation of the technique
Thank you for the question. Yes, there is a space limitation on a strip, where the DNA probes are placed. That is why two kits have been developed, CM and AS, to be done one after onother from the same PCR amplicon. And the secon limitation, more serious, is the limitted number of specific DNA probes. The techniques, that is easy to perform and not time consuming, has been developed to be implemented into routine laboratory work flow in order to type the most common mycobacteria.

With now over 120 species or types of non tuberculous mycobacteria described in addition to TB (human, bovis etc) and more mycobacteria being implicated in disease is there a numerical limit to the number of species which can be detected by the technique ?
