Abstract

Breast tuberculosis is an uncommon illness. It is predominant in young women. To the our knowledge, only seven cases of tuberculuos mastitis in men have been reported in the English literature since 1945. Furthermore there are no male patient who have breast and osteoarticular tuberculosis in the literature. We presented a 41 years old man who was admitted with a fixed tender mass in the right retro-mammary region and pain in the right hip. An ultrasound and CT scan examination showed a 3x6 cm anterior chest wall semisolid soft tissue mass. Right hip magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed effusion and enhancement at hip joint. Needle aspiration from retro-mammary mass and synovial biopsy from right hip joint were performed. Stains for acid-fast bacilli were undertaken in needle aspiration material. Mycobacterium tuberculosis colonies were isolated from the Löwenstein-Jensen culture in these material. It was reported susceptibl all major antituberculous drugs. Histopathological examination revealed caseous granulamatous infection in right hip synovial tissue. Isoniasid (300 mg/d), rifampin (600 mg/d), ethambutol (1500 mg/d) and pyrazinamide (2500 g/d) were given for treatment.
