Abstract
INTRODUCTION:Six-minute walk distance (6MWD) has been specified as the main clinical outcome in PH and has been used as the primary end-point in many studies. We aim to investigate the relationship between 6MWD, pulmonary functions, anxiety and depression and quality of life (QoL) outcomes in patients with PH.
METHOD:The study included 60 cases (52 females,8 males) who were followed up by PH policlinic for at least six months.Sociodemographic data of the patients was recorded.Emphasis-10 Turkish version and Short Form-12(SF-12) was used to assess QoL,Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale are used for evaluate anxiety and depression.Six-minute walk test was performed to determine the exercise capacities and patients 6MWD was calculated as percentage of predicted value.Patients pulmonary function tests and mean pulmonary arterial pressure (PAP) results were recorded.
RESULTS:The mean age of the participants was 52.43±15.31 years and the mean predicted 6MWD value was 68.86±19.70%.Statistical analysis showed that predicted 6MWD have moderate correlation with QoL (r:0.37, p:0.003),DLCO (r:0.45, p:0.021),FEV1% (r:0.38, p:0.019),FVC% (r:0.38, p:0.020) and physical subgroup (r:0.48, p:0.001) of SF-12.No correlation was found with predicted and actual 6MWD between anxiety, depression, mental subgroup of SF-12 and PAP.
CONCLUSION: Study showed that 6MWD could be associated with pulmonary function results and especially with the physical parameters of QoL.However, anxiety, depression or mental parameters have no effect on 6MWD among patients with PH. Studies with different factors are needed for further researches.
