Introduction: Tobacco is the cause and aggravating factor of many vascular and respiratory diseases.
Objectives: Analyze the differences between smokers who continued in smoking consultation versus the high percentage of patients who did not attend the second visit and therefore did not initiate treatment.
Material and Methods: Retrospective study of 1484 patients who attended our unit between 2008-2012. We used Chi-square or Fisher's exact test to compare the frequencies and t Student for means. The level of significance was set at p≤0.05. The use of this data is approved by the ethical research committee of our center.
Results: 1484 patients
Conclusions:
1- Almost 50% of the patients who attended the consultation did not start treatment.
2- Those who dropped out before starting treatment had fewer previous attempts to quit smoking and less motivation.
3- There are no differences between the pathologies associated between both groups, except those who failed to start treatment have a significantly higher proportion of ischemic heart disease.
