Abstract

Chronic bronchiolitis (CB) is characterized by inflammatory process in low airways. Such cytokines as INF-γ and multifunctional pro-inflammatory cytokine TNF-α can regulated a wide spectrum of alveolar macrophage activity in immune answer and inflammation.
The aim of the study was to determine TNF-α and INF-γ levels in brohchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) and blood serum in patients with CB.
We study 57 children (age 11.5±]0.4 years) with CB in exacerbation and remission periods. All patients were divided into 3 groups on degree of bronchial obstruction: 15 patients had severe variant of CB (1 group), 15 -had moderate variant (II group) and 27 children had mild variant of illness (III group).
BAL-fluid and serum levels of TNF-α in exacerbation period were significantly higher in patients with severe variant CB (I group) as compare to patients of II and III groups. Levels of INF-γ in BAL-fluid of patients with CB were in normal range (20.2 ±]2.7 pg/ml).
In blood serum it was detected negative correlation of level of INF- and degree of bronchial obstruction in exacerbation period: in patients of III group it was detected significantly(P<0.01) higher INF-γ levels as compare to I group.
The data obtained indicate that TNF-α levels in BAL-fluid and blood serum can be used as a marker of a severity of chronic bronchiolitis.
