Abstract Purpose of this study was to analyse structure and dynamics of antituberculosis-drug resistance patients in Tatarstan Republic (Russia). Resistance was analysed during 5 years (from 1997 till 2001) in more, than 1000 patients every year. Patients were divided into newly detected (from 37,3% to 42,4% every year) and chronic patients (from 57,6% to 62,7%). First group included from 48,6% to 54,1% of patients, who haven't received antituberculosis drugs and from 45,9% to 51,4% - who have received them before. Most resistance in chronic patients was found to Isoniazid (highest in 1999 - 75,0% and lowest in 2001 - 52,8%) and Streptomycin - highest in 2000 - 59,0% and lowest in 2001 - 39,3%). Resistance to Streptomycin in newly detected patients, who haven't received antituberculosis drugs was highest in 2000 - 36,1% and lowest in 1999 - 20,2%. In patients, who have received antituberculosis drugs, highest resistance was found to Isoniazid: from 50,9% in 2000 to 65% in 2001. During that 5 year's period the lowest resistant was found to 4-5 drug combinations (0-1,7%) than to 2-3 drug combinations (5,7-10,2%). Investigation showed importance of use of 4-5 antituberculosis drugs combinations in tuberculosis treatment. It is also important not to use antituberculosis drugs widely in therapeutic hospitals.
