Abstract

Background: Interferon regulatory factor 7 (IRF-7) is a transcription factor, a major regulator of type I (ab) interferon (IFN) secretion. Previous studies elucidated that IRF-7 is related to a wide variety of pathologic conditions more than infections. Several studies have indicated that genetic polymorphisms in the IRF-7 gene are related to systemic lupus erythematosus. We hypothesize that this gene may also play a role in the risk of immune-related infectious diseases such as tuberculosis.Method: A total of 636 patients with tuberculosis and 608 healthy control were recruited. IRF-7 (rs3758650) genotyping was performed on the MassARRAY platform. The association between difference SNP genotype was calculated using the chi-squared test.results:The distributions of genotype of the IRF-7 (rs3758650) polymorphism conform to Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium(p=0.996) in the controls. We successfully genotyping and analyzed 636 cases and 608 controls. Due to the frequency well matching, we found no statistical significant difference in the distribution of both age and sex between cases and controls. We did not find significant association between IRF-7 polymorphism (rs3758650) and tuberculosis.
