Abstract
Objectives: to identify the ethiological agents of the acute infectious exacerbation, with the purpose to promote a first step therapeutic schema.
Method: a retrospective study made on 240 patient having COPD in the acute phase, hospitalized between January, 1 and December 31, 2001.
Setting: National Institute of Pneumology [dsquote]Marius Nasta[dsquote], Bucharest, Romania
Subjects: The studied group includes 144 males and 96 females from the urban (198 cases) and rural (42 cases) areas, having from 36 to 79 years old, with a mean age of 60 years. The smokers represent 68% of the total number of patients.
Results: The ethiological agent was isolated from the sputum in 195 patients. As a note is the preponderance of the gram-negative bacilli, being isolated 98 strains of Haemophillus and 65 of enterobacteriacee: Klebsiella, Enterobacter, E. Coli, and Pseudomonas. Streptococcus pneumoniae was identified in 32 cases. Concerning the strains of Haemophillus, as a note, are a moderate microbial resistance to aminopenicillins, macrolide, fenicolates, and lower resistance to cephalosporins (2-nd, 3-rd generation). The strains of Streptococcus pneumoniae that were studied (32 cases) had moderate resistance to cyclins. For the enterobacteriacee as a note are the significant resistance to aminopenicillins, the moderate resistance to fenicolates, and the low resistance for the cephalosporins of the 3-rd generation.
