Abstract

Introduction. After a series of educational campaigns carried on in Romania in a period of 2 years in the field of COPD, we tried to unravel the therapeutic attitude for a patient suffering of such a disease. Material and method. Questionnaires with 41 questions were sent to 101 pneumologists. Most of them were MD (65,3%), with an average age of 42 ±] 8,8 years, most of them being in the urban milieu – 92,1%. Results and discussions. The physicians have in evidence an average 66,5 ±] 77 patients with COPD; they are controlled an a average at 9,6 ±] 6 weeks, and after being hospitalized at 5,7 ±] 5,5 weeks. On a average, they know a single consensus (44,6% only the Romanian consensus) and only 44,6% took part in a courses of improvement in this field. From the therapeutic point of view they use in 59,4% cases anticolinergics in the first line, in 53,5% in second line β2 mimetics and in 32,7% in the third line the xantines. Nevertheless, 87% use myofilin injectible, 91% hemisucinat of hydrocortisone in the case of exacerbation. For a better control of this disease, only 26,7% consider important the anti-tobacco measures and 71,3% feel the absence of scientific educational material for the physicians; 54% need a spirometer, for improving the investigation of this disease Conclusions. The study reveals that in Romania still exists serious deficiencies concerning the pneumologists education and the absence of a minimum endowments of the consulting rooms and hospitals. It requires to be worked out some educational material for patients and medical staff dealing with such problems. Study sponsored by Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceutical Company – Romanian branch.
