Abstract

Besides the importance of the passive case findings of tuberculosis today, miniature chest X ray method (fluorography) as active method in screening of tuberculosis has big importance at different risk groups and risk factors.
To estimate the level of tuberculosis in persons from psychiatric facilities, correctional facilities (prisons), refugees camps as risk groups and in patients with terminal kidney failure as a risk factor, in the period from 1999 to 2001,7361 miniature chest X ray pictures were made. In the psychiatric facilities in Republic of Macedonia, in 1999, tuberculosis incidence of 323.4/100 000 is registered, in 2000 242.7/100 000 and in 2001 266/100 000. In correctional facilities (prisons) in 2000 TB incidence was 148.3/100 000. The refuges camps in Macedonia in 2001 had 120.9/100 000 incidence of tuberculosis. In 2001, we did not find any case of tuberculosis in patients with terminal kidney failure as a risk group, besides the high prevalence of sequels from pulmonary TB at those patients 1690/100 000.
This high incidence of TB in persons from different risk groups gathered with miniature chest X ray pictures, especially in psychiatric facilities, is justifying this method, as very helpful in early stages of diagnose and adequate healing process of this infectious disease.
On the other hand, high prevalence of TB sequels and depression of the cellular immunity in patients with kidney failure is determinates the need for permanent period controls.
