Abstract

Introduction and Goal: Due to the high prevalence of T.B, and the availability, inexpensivity of radiology in diagnosis of pulmonary T.B we did this study in patients who referred to T.B center of Kashan between 1987-1993.
Material and Methods: This research was descriptive according to exiting data on 254 patients who referred to Kashan T.B center. We reported the patients information, e.g. age, sex, nationality, sputum smear results cavity of lung and radiologic findings in the information form and reported the results as descriptive statistics.
Findings: Here was 148 women (58.3%), 106 men (41.7%). The most prevalence was 17.3% in 20-24 years old age group, 147 (57.9%) were Iranian, and 107 (42.1%) had no radiographic evaluation, 14 (55%) had normal chest radiography and 190 patients (74.8%) had one to 4 findings chest X-ray. The most frequent radiologic finding was pneumonia in 27.4% of patients. In 180 sputum smear reports, there was 100 (55.5%) positive sputum smear, 29% of them had cavity in their chest X-ray.
Results: There should be more radiographic finding in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis. So we recommend a chest X-ray in all patients with lower respiratory tract infection.
