Abstract

The aim: to evaluate the diagnostics methods, prevalence of clinical forms and treatment results of new tuberculosis (TB) cases.
Material and methods: 67 patients, aged 49.5 ±] 30.5 years, treated in Republic Santariskiu TB hospital in 2001 were involved into the study. Smears (Zhiel-Neelsen) and cultures; bronchoscopic pulmonary, pleural, lymphnodes biopsies, trepanobiopsies; chest X-ray and CT were used as diagnostics methods. Every case was evaluated according to localization, diagnosis confirmation, treatment results after intensive DOT phase.
Results: Pulmonary TB was confirmed by positive sputum smears and cultures in 30 cases (44.8 %), by cultures - in 3 (4.5 %), by histology - in 3 (4.5 %), by radiology and clinical data - in 11 (16.4 %). 3 cases of miliary TB (4.5 %) was diagnosed by liver biopsy (1), trepanobiopsy (2), sputum cultures (1). Comfirmed generalised TB lymphadenitis was diagnosed in HIV (+) patient. TB pleurisy confirmed by histology and bacteriology (14.9 % - 10 patients) was prevalent to compare with uncomfirmed TB pleurisy (8,9 % - 6 patients). Abaciliarity after intensive DOT phase was 92.8 % (26 patients from 28), 4 patients (6 %) interrupted treatment (2 patients in continuation phase). 7 patients (10.4 %) died because complicated TB.
Conclusions: 1. New TB cases confirmed by bacteriology or histology amounted to 74.7 % and confirmed pulmonary TB - 76.6 %. 2. Abaciliarity index after intensive DOT phase was 92.8%, lethal outcome - 10 %.
