Abstract

The values of the gas-analyses are very important parameters in the following of patients with COPD.The acide-base changes follow the stage of clinical occurences of the patients. The use of non-invasive ventilation is very important in respiratory health control and the treatment of chronic respiratory failure.
We have investigated 48 patients with the exacerbation of COPD.The values of the gass-analyses were tested in the blood with gas-analyser.The results show that we have:22(48%)patients with hypoxemia(PaO2:8,2-6,9)and normocapnia;18(38%)patients were with severe hypoxemia(PaO2:6,8-5,2)and hypercapnia(PaCO2>6,0) and 8(13%)were with respiratory acidosis. We investigated the effect of non-invasive ventilation support via standard nose or face mask in one week.Blood gasses were recorded after:2 hours, 1 day,4 days and 7 days. All patients were receiving oxygen therapy(together with standard treatment for patients with COPD).We have observed that after 1 day ventilation can increase PaO2(p<0,001) and after 4 days decrease PaCO2(p<0,001) and increase pH(p<0,001).
We have concluded that this support of non-invasive ventilation is very important for patients with exacerbation of COPD.The values of gases in the blood show how serious is the condition of the patient. We can follow the real clinical changes during the treatment.
