Abstract

Smoking is one of risk factors in acute, chronic and malignant disease. The rising problem is from day to day the larger number of teenagers-smokers. The family has a significant (important) influence that appearance. By this questionnaire, we have already examined connection between parents-smokers and their children. From 675 teenagers included by this qestionnaire, (age 14-18), 136 (20,1% are smokers, but 539 (79,9%) are nonsmokers.

father smoker mother smoker both parents smoker parents nonsmoker
teenagers 26 32 61 17
smokers 19% 23,5% 45% 12,5%
teenagers 112 61 84 282
nonsmokers 21% 11% 16% 52%

The chart shows that teenagers smokers in high percent (45%) come from the families where both parents are smokers. Also we can see that cosiderable higher percent of parents nonsmokers (52%) have the teenagers nonsmokers. Relative high percent of smoking is in direct connection with low social-economic status of researched environment. Health-educational work in schools has to include a grat number of parents who must be reminded that parents smokers are bringing up children smokers.
