Abstract

The take an apple to your life group is a civil and medical association againts tobacco abuse funded at Morelia, Michoacan. México. In 2000 focus tested and implemented a series of actions designed to discourage people from 4 to 100 years to smoke. The actions consist in differents activities like a conference, art exposition, local radio and news paper spots, local radio and tv interviews, delivery of small posters to coffees, restaurants, offices and hospitals highlighting the unattractive and unhealthy aspects of smoking.
24 months later, the overrall effectiveness of campaing and conference information remains in question. A questionnaire was piloted to 2500 high school students about the impact of campaign and was tested using age-appropiate multiple choice questions, and responses were ordinally categorized as indication 1) recognition, 2) importance of this actions, and 3) personal impact. Responses to several open-ended question were qualitatively analyzed to asses the nature of any messages communicated to the people, as well as their overall attitudes toward the campaign. 100% of teenagers denied any anti-tobacco program at his community schools, 87% was considerered that permanent anti-tobacco programs must be developed, 87% of people considered that TV, Radio, newspaper, magazines announces induce to young people to smoke, 60% was agree with those people with respiratory problems associated to tobacco have to pay is own medical cost & assistence, 40% of teenagers feelt that after tobacco conference are prepared to figth against tobacco.
