Abstract In this study, we propose to find figures for smoking within a group of 13–14 years old students and also their opinion about smoking. We have worked on a group of 524 students of 13–14 years old, from three elementary schools in Craiova (258 are girls, 266 are boys). The questionnaire has been used as the study method. Results: 13,4% from the total of the questioned students (70 of them) are smokers and girls are a quarter of the smokers. 46% of the smoking students have smoking parents and 28,6% have also smoking brothers or sisters. 60 of the 70 smokers are consuming less then 10 cigarettes daily and only 4 of them are consuming more than 15 cigarettes daily. 26,5% of the questioned smoking students wished to quit smoking, but failed; 34,7% have thought about it, but still they are not decided; and only 14,3% are smoking and never thought about quitting. 25% of the students take contact with smokers in school and only 46% of them have smoking family members. As a conclusion, 13,4% is the rate of questioned smoking teenagers and about 70% of the investigated students are living beside smokers. The circle of friends is a main favoring factor for smoking at teenagers.
