Abstract The prevalence of tobacco consumption was estimated among the pupils of the VIII-Th, X-th and XII-th forms in the town Deva (district Hunedoara). The samples of questioned pupils (304, 302 and respectively 309) have been representative. It has been noticed that prevalence among the pupils of the three forms is of 2.6% (8 pupils) in the VIII-th form, 9.6% (29 pupils) in the X-th form and 25.6% (79 pupils) in the XII form. There are smoking up to 6 cigarettes a day 100% out of the pupils considered to be smokers in the VIII-th form (8), 79.3% (23) out of the total smokers of the X-th form and 58.2% (46) out of the smokers in the XII-th form. Evidently, the percentage of those smoking over 6 cigarettes a day increases at the same time with the bigger forms, 20.7% in the X-th, and 41.8% in the XII-th form. If the prevalence of smoking has been 0.7 % among girls in the VIII-th form, the indicator has attained 23.7% in the XII-th form. The values of the prevalence have been 4.4% at the boys from the same forms and respectively 30%.
