Abstract
Organophosphate (OP) compounds are widely used agricultural insecticides. OP poisoning occurs as a result of accidental exposure or deliberate ingestion. We report three cases of organophosphate (OP) poisoning. One of them was a 19-year-old woman who drank OP compounds as a suicidal attempt. Other two were intoxicated on the way to the hospital during mouth to mouth breathing. First case died in the emergency department (ED) and other two were taken to the intensive care unit (ICU). There, they were managed with atropine and pralidoxime. Three days later, all symptoms and signs disappeared and they were discharged satisfactorily.
Depending on the extent of the contamination, healthcare workers caring for chemically contaminated patients should use full face mask, prevent dermal and inhalational exposure.
ED and ICU sections of the hospitals should review their precautions for their healthcare workers because of the cases mentioned above.
