Abstract

Background: asthma educations programs induce better asthma control and are one of main recommendation at guidelines. Aim: measured the time to obtain asthma control with a program for asthmatic adults. Methods: 121 patients included and followed over six months trial, with systematic collection of data, adjustment of pharmacological treatment and structured educational program applied. The end point were: time1- time last to the patient obtain the first no symptomatic period; time 2: the total time during the study that each patient had a no symptomatic period. At beginning the patients were stratified: Class I= PFE>80%; Class II= PFE 50- 80% and Class III =PFE<50%. Kaplan-Meier of the survival function (time) were calculated for patients in each class and were compared with the log-rank test. Results the probability of the patients get a time 1 control were one months for PEF class I,II and 3 months for class III (p=0.03), and for time 2: two, three and four months at PEF class I,II,III (p=0.003) Conclusion: The PEF at beginning program could estimate the time to get a good control of asthma.
