Abstract
Interstitial pneumonia is a histopathological entity that affects the supportive structure of the alveolar walls and the terminal airways. In a retrospective study the results of thoracoscopy in 66 patients with diffuse interstitial lung disease were reviewed. Histopathological findings showed that 17 out of 66 (25,7%), suffered of interstitial pneumonia. Thoracoscopy under local anaesthesia and i.v. sedation was performed in 4 patients and under general anaesthesia (VATS) in 13 patients.

There were no intraoperative or postoperative death or major complications.
We conclude that minimal invasive technique as thoracoscopy, especially medical thoracoscopy is valuable to determine diagnosis, prognosis and management of patients with interstitial pneumonia. Its diagnostic accuracy is superior to other techniques such as fine needle aspiration and transbronchial biopsy.
