Abstract
We have analyzed severe course of the disease according to data of year 2001. During this period 172 patients (68 male, 104 female) with exacerbation were observed. We have diagnosed severe asthma in 43% of cases (74 patients, with average age of 55 years old, with average disease duration of 13.2 years). Asthma of moderate severity was found in 50% (86 patients); of mild severity – in 7% (12 patients). 51.4% of patients with severe course (38 patients) were given system steroids for 2-20 years. 10 patients had Cushing's syndrome manifestations. Acute severe asthma, namely acute severe onset of the disease was found in 8.1% of cases of severe course (6 patients). Status asthmaticus developed in 10.8% (8) of patients. 10.8% (8) of patients had brittle asthma, mostly (6 patients) was aspirin-depended (8.1% of severe asthma). 3 patients (4%) had fatal asthma, which needed intubation and caused death of the patients.
Conclusion: it is shown that several groups of patients are to have severe asthma. Among which there are acute severe, brittle (mostly aspirin-depended) and fatal asthma, chronic difficult asthma forms greater part (51.4% of cases) and forces to prescription of not only inhaling but also system steroids and careful dispensary observation of the patients.
