Abstract

60 patients with bronchial asthma (BA) (22 men and 38 women, mean age 51.7±]12.4 years) were included. 12 patients with moderate exacerbation of BA received bronchodilators via nebuliser "Pary TurboBoy" (Germany) and glucocorticosteroids (GCS) 1000mcg/day - via metered dose inhaler (MDI). To control severe exacerbation of BA in 48 patients nebulized therapy (NT) with combination of bronchodilators and pulmicort suspension (PS) was used. 6 patients with prednisolone-depended BA initially received oral GCS. The course of NT allowed to reduce the doses of oral GCS in this group of patients. Initial dosage and duration of NT depended on severity of BA exacerbation.

Preparation Initial dose Initial daily dose Cumulative dose
Berotec 0.5-1 mg 2-4 mg 20-25 mg
Salbutamol 2.5-5 mg 10-15 mg 85-100 mg
Berodual 1-1.5 ml 6-8 ml 75-80 ml
Pulmicort susp. 1-4 mg 2-8 mg 16-86 mg (30.8 mg)

FEV1 increase was 32.1±]10.2% of pred., PEF increase was 234±]45L/min in patients with severe exacerbation and FEV1 increase was 20.1±]9.8% of pred., PEF increase was 177±]34L/min in patients with moderate exacerbation [p<0.05]. NT is an effective method of treatment in patients with exacerbation of BA. Treatment with nebulized PS allows to avoid oral GCS administration.
