Abstract

The aim of the study was to compare cellular structure of induced sputum (IS) and bronchial brush bioptates (BBB) in acute asthma patients ( n=20) and to reveal correlations between them. Significantly increase inflammathory cells: eosinophils (E), lymphocytes (L) and decrease of macrophages (M) was found in IS and BBB of patients compared to healthy subjects; number of neutrophils (N) statistically did not differ. Significant difference was obtained between IS and BBB concerning all abovementioned cells: E-32.33 ±] 16.09 % and 20.10±] 12.59%, N-25.92 ±] 13.41% and 12.25 ±] 9.8%, M-40.03 ±] 13.71% and 28.55±]13.01%, L-1.83±]1.07% and 37.4±]13.75%, respect (p <0.05). A significant correlation was found between number E (r=0.72, p<0.05), M (r=0.55, p<0.05) and N (r=0.34, p<0.05) in IS and BBB.
Conclusion: Induced sputum being noninvasive method of bronchial secret investigation reveals inflammatory process in bronchi as well as bronchial brush bioptates do but induced sputum is not identical to them by cellular structure.
