Abstract

Introduction:
Antioxidants have significant effects in pulmonary Tuberculosis (TB) recovery.
Aim:
We have evaluated vitamin supplement therapy on malondialdehyde (MDA) levels as lipid peroxidation marker in TB course.
Method:
We have conducted a clinical trial study. So, patients have selected as case and same number for control. Inclusion criteria were documented smear positive pulmonary TB and adult hood and new case.
We exclude, all Extra-pulmonary TB and smear negative TB.
Case group received vitamin A, or vitamin A with Vitamin E and C. Both groups received anti TB as WHO recommendation. The serum level of vitamin A and E have measured by HPLC and Vitamin C by 2,4 dinitrophenilhydralazine method.
Data have analyzed by SPSS.
Results:
MDA serum levels in case group and control were 4 ± .7 nmol/L And 3.6 ±1 nmol/L respectively.(P=0.572)
The serum level of MDA after our intervention was 3.3 ± .7 in Vitamin A group and 3.9±1.1 in control group. The MDA levels differences were significant in case group (P = .018) but no differences has showed in control group. (P=.308)
Conclusion:
There is significant decrease in lipid stress oxidative process in vitamin supplement therapy group. It may help to prevent more tissue damage in tuberculosis disease course.
