Abstract

An analysis of influence of respiratory rehabilitation on psychological condition of 83 BA patients and in 46 normal subjects (NS). Psychological condition was assessed by questionnaire of Spilberger-Khanin. The respiratory training was performed by biological feedback (BF) method and by positive oscillatory expiratory pressure (POEP) technique. The duration of the rehabilitation course was 7 days. Basically, BA patients demonstrated higher value of responsive anxiety (RA; 44±1.8; p=0.04) and personal anxiety (PA; 49±1.2; p=0.031). The course of the BF training followed by significant PA decrease (p=0.025) and by trend towards RA decrease. In contrast, the course of POEP therapy followed by significant RA decrease (p=0.03) and slight PA decrease. NS demonstrated only a trend towards both RA and PA diminishing which was stipulated for basically normal values. Combination of both techniques in BA patients significantly decreased both responsive and personal anxiety thus normalizing general psychological condition of patients.
