PG05 Severe asthma – highlights from the ERS/ATS workshop

Aims: The joint ERS/ATS Task Force on severe asthma has completed its recommendations and has provided a new definition of severe asthma. It has also reviewed the use of the current and new medications for severe asthma, and has given suggestions regarding the definition of new phenotypes of severe asthma. The aims of this session are to:
• Discuss the new definition of severe asthma;
• Review the phenotypic findings and pathobiology of severe asthma;
• Evaluate the recent treatments for severe asthma on the basis of the GRADE approach;
• Examine how severe asthma in children may differ from that in adults; and
• Discuss the way forward over the next 10 years.
