Symposium
Chairs: R. Gloeckl (Schoenau am Koenigssee, Germany), M. Spruit (Horn, Netherlands)
Aims: to describe the components and effects of pulmonary rehabilitation other than exercise training and improving exercise performance; to present a state-of-the-art overview of interventions aimed at reducing cardiometabolic risk and innovative strategies targeting muscle wasting; to explain that pulmonary rehabilitation affects the main features of respiratory diseases, including airway and systemic inflammation, and disease stability; to discuss patient motivation as an important treatment goal and factor associated with long-term lifestyle changes following pulmonary rehabilitation.
