The role of respiratory muscle dysfunction in weaning failure

Symposium
Chairs: S. Nava (Bologna (BO), Italy), T. Andersen (Bergen, Norway)
Aims: The aim of this session is to describe recent insights into the pathophysiology of respiratory muscle dysfunction in ICU patients and how these new findings may affect clinical care for our patients. An overview of methods available for monitoring and treating respiratory muscle dysfunction will be provided and the potential impact of novel insights on optimization of training parameters and assessment of outcomes will be discussed.
