Aims: to provide an overview of the role of exercise in the improvement of lung function and in the prevention of extrapulmonary features including decrease in muscle mass, cognitive function, mood and frailty; to demonstrate how to provide an exercise prescription in order to improve extrapulmonary characteristics; and to define the critical role of the various available exercise modalities in the prevention of comorbidities.
