Answer to the diagnosis of TB effusions
In our study, patients with tuberculous pleural effusions were identified by positive pleura pathology of needle biopsy or thoracoscopy, or sputum smear acid-fast bacill positive. I think postive TB culture of pleural fluid is not common clinically and it takes a long time.

Unless there is a postive culture for TB in pleural fluid the diagnosis of TB effusions while helped by addition analysis and assay, remains a clinical judgement.
