Mast cells and basophils as key effector cells in airway inflammation and remodelling

Aims: At the end of the symposium the audience should have:
• learnt new evidence implicating mast cells and basophils as key cellular participants in inflammation and tissue remodelling;
• considered how mast cells and basophils can each play unique roles in asthma and other inflammatory conditions;
• become aware of the considerable potential of mast cells and basophils, and their products, as targets for drug development. Target audience: Research scientists and clinicians with an interest in new advances in the understanding of the roles of mast cells and basophils in asthma, COPD and other inflammatory conditions of the airways, and the prospects for new treatments.
