Aims: The main target of this symposium is to update the participants on current advances in the knowledge regarding the management of hospital-acquired pneumonia. At the end of this symposium, the participants will be able to:
• understand the correct methodological approach to the diagnosis of pneumonia;
• define the role of the noninvasive and invasive techniques for microbiological diagnosis;
• understand the advantages and the limits of prophylactic strategies;
• understand the value and the limits of current therapeutic indications. Target audience: Clinicians, microbiologists and public health specialists involved in LRTI surveillance and control. Research fellows, training specialists interested in updating their knowledge regarding the management of pneumonia.
