PG19 - Thoracic oncology: diagnostic assessment of lung cancer

Aims: This is the first course in a comprehensive three-year postgraduate core curriculum covering the main issues on thoracic oncology. The aims of this first module in the series are:
• to highlight the changing epidemiology and clinical presentation of lung cancer, which creates new opportunities for screening and early diagnosis;
• to explain the role of pathological classification and the rapidly increasing knowledge on the molecular basis of lung cancer progression;
• to review new diagnostic endoscopy techniques and tissue obtaining procedures;
• to address the consequences of staging and functional assessment on treatment planning. Target audience: Pulmonologists, medical oncologists, thoracic surgeons, radiotherapists, radiologists, nuclear medicine, trainees in the previously mentioned specialties.
