Aims: This course will cover the main issues on sleep apneoa, from the pathology to the current treatments offered. It is aimed at a general audience interested in an introduction to, or an update on, sleep apnoea. At the end of this course participants will be able to:
• understand the pathophysiology of obstructive sleep apnoea;
• identify the new concepts and relevant criteria for diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnoea;
• understand the metabolic effects of obstructive sleep apnoea;
• understand the basic principles of treatment of obstructive sleep apnoea. Target audience: Pneumologists with a special interest in sleep-disordered breathing, but also cardiologists, neurologists and GPs.
