PG12 - Challenges in pulmonary embolism: hot issues and interactive cases (jointly organised with ACCP)

Postgraduate Course
Chairs: A. Thomas (Washington, Dc, United States of America), G. Simonneau (Clamart, France)
Aims: The purpose of this course, organised jointly by the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP) and the ERS, is to provide a state-of-the-art update on current practice, challenges and hot issues in the diagnosis and management of patients with acute pulmonary embolism. Recent advances in knowledge of risk factors, pathogenesis and prognostic indicators will also be reviewed, as will advances in noninvasive diagnostic procedures and patient-specific treatment strategies. Experts will employ a combination of didactic and case-based interactive approaches, to update participants on:
- advances in knowledge of epidemiology, pathogenesis and risk factors;
- challenges in diagnosis, and the contribution of newer noninvasive techniques;
- advances in knowledge of risk assessment models and prognostic markers;
- therapeutic strategies, including patient-specific strategies, anticoagulants, thrombolysis, and indications for, and complications of, inferior vena cava filters;
- thromboembolism in pregnancy.
