Aims: This symposium will elaborate on the pathophysiology of chronic and acute ventilatory failure in patients with neuromuscular disease (both adults and children) and provide participants with an update on:
• diagnostic procedures and clinical management;
• protocols of intervention in preventing acute ventilatory failure;
• indications for nocturnal and daytime noninvasive ventilation;
• technical issues and outcomes of noninvasive ventilation;
• management of airway secretion clearance;
• technologies in home mechanical ventilation.
