Aims: This symposium will update delegates on:
• the new vision of the WHO-recommended strategy of tuberculosis control;
• the evidence that smoking affects, in different ways, the tuberculosis epidemic;
• new approaches to control HIV and implement tuberculosis/HIV collaborating activities;
• the latest information on epidemiology, clinical aspects, mechanisms of disease, therapy and diagnosis of tuberculosis in HIV infection.
