Aims: to describe the controversial aspects of the current guidelines for the management of adults with COVID-19 in the intensive care unit, clinical standards for tuberculosis infection, optimal follow-up after acute pulmonary embolism and imaging of pulmonary embolism in pregnancy; to discuss data underpinning nonadherence and alternative approaches to current recommendations; to propose evidence-based substitute management recommendations for clinicians; to identify areas of concern; to highlight the need for further research.
