Acute respiratory distress syndrome: the path to precision medicine
Journal sessionChairs: L. Heunks (Amsterdam, Netherlands), R. Craven (London, United Kingdom), M. Barrecheguren Fernandez (Barcelona, Spain)
Aims: To present the most recent papers commissioned by The Lancet and The Lancet Respiratory Medicine, to provide insights into the pathophysiology and phenotypes of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), to review current approaches for diagnosis and management of paediatric and adult patients, to consider therapeutic options in development for this heterogeneous syndrome, to discuss the needs of patients with long-term sequelae of ARDS and to set out future directions for research and clinical practice. This forward-looking session will provide new insights into mechanisms and management for both nonspecialists and specialists, with a focus on the goal of precision medicine.
