Respiratory failure in the immunocompromised - investigation and treatment

Major Symposium
Chairs: A. Torres (Barcelona, Spain), T. Bauer (Bochum, Germany)
Aims: Pulmonary infiltrates in the immunocompromised patient have a very wide differential diagnosis and pose a significant diagnostic challenge. If patients develop respiratory failure, the prognosis is very poor. This symposium will review the differential diagnosis and investigational strategies for pulmonary infiltrates in the immunocompromised. The role of ventilatory support, invasive and noninvasive, will be discussed.
