Assembly Symposium
Chairs: R. Rodriguez-Roisin (Barcelona, Spain), P. Herve (Le Plessis Robinson, France)
Aims: The ERS is supporting a Task Force on pulmonary-hepatic disorders (PHD) - hepatopulmonary syndrome (HPS) and portopulmonary hypertension (POPH). This Task Force report will be based on the best validated current concepts of PHD medical literature and the available evidence on the most appropriate strategies of management and patient care. The Task Force PHD will focus on the following unmet aspects: 1) syndrome definition and diagnostic criteria; 2) medical and nonmedical treatments; 3) liver transplant recommendations; and 4) future research areas. The objectives are:
• to increase awareness of HPS and POPH and reduce their morbidity and mortality;
• to improve diagnosis and management of HPS and POPH through a concerted effort by specialists involved in all facets of clinical care;
• to stimulate recommendations for programmes of research interest in these two PHD.
