Postgraduate Course
Chairs: R. Irwin (Worcester, United States of America), A. Morice (Cottingham, United Kingdom)
Aims: Chronic cough is the most common complaint for which patients seek medical attention.
There have been many recent advances in managing chronic cough. The ERS and ACCP have both recently published clinical practice guidelines on managing this very common symptom. The specific aims of this joint ACCP/ERS Postgraduate Course are:
• to review and compare the respective clinical practice guidelines of the ERS and American College of Chest Physicians;
• to facilitate an understanding on the part of the audience of areas of controversy in managing chronic cough;
• to update knowledge on the part of the audience on the role of bronchoscopy and noninvasive measurements of airway inflammation in evaluating and diagnosing the cause(s) of chronic cough.
