PG04 Update on COPD exacerbations

Aims: Over the past few years, significant progress has been made in understanding the pathophysiology and treatment of exacerbations in patients with COPD. The aims of the session are as follows:
• To describe the pathophysiological changes that occur during exacerbation;
• To review the use of biomarkers that are predictive of the frequent exacerbation phenotype;
• To highlight the role of antibiotics in the treatment of AECOPD; and
• To describe the newer treatment approaches for AECOPD.
