PG5 The small airways in lung diseases

Aims: The aim of this session is to: increase knowledge and awareness on the topic of small airways in asthma and in COPD; appreciate the role of small airways in the pathophysiology of asthma and COPD; describe improved methods for physiological assessment of the small airways; show the recent advances in imaging of the small airways; and to review the studies demonstrating the added benefit of treatments able to reach the distal lung in the management of asthma and COPD patients.
