Oxidative and nitrative stress: control of cell function in COPD
Symposium Chairs: P. J. Barnes (London, United Kingdom), K. Ito (London, United Kingdom)
Aims: At the end of the symposium the audience will:
• understand the importance of oxidative and nitrative stress in controlling cell and protein function;
• appreciate the wealth of data implicating abnormal protein function induced by these stresses and the subsequent effects on inflammatory cell action;
• know the potential for the targeting of these processes in the development of novel drug treatments for COPD, and perhaps for severe steroid-insensitive asthma, where increased oxidant/nitrative stress occurs.
