Aims: To offer a detailed analysis of pre-operative assessment, operative strategy and of the outcome of the treatment in different groups of marginal situations related to:
• limited lung function and increased overall cardiopulmonary risk;
• difficulties in the assessment of the (advanced) local extent of the disease;
• unusual surgical decisions and intra-operative decisions in unexpected situations;
• lung resection after pleural empyema.
