Aims: This is the third course in a three-year postgraduate core curriculum covering the main issues on paediatrics. The aims of this third module in the series are:
• to review the current epidemiology of respiratory infections in children;
• to give insights into the most appropriate approaches to microbiological diagnosis;
• to provide an update on current recommendations for treatment.
